Will Skin Lightening pills/creams affect my new tattoos?

by Anonymous
(London)

Hi Maria, I remember asking you if the creams would affect my new tattoos if i applied the cream there, and think you said it could affect the colour..

I was wondering the same thing with the whitening pills! i like to lighten my skin tone but not effect the ink on my tattoos?

Hope you can help on this question, your website is very helpful and explains everything, the best website by far.

Kind regards.

Answer:

Hello there, thank you for your kind compliment. Appreciate it much. :)

To answer your question, it may affect your tattoos but not directly. Since the skin whitening pills work from the inside out, the body's melanin content that gives the brown skin color, will be reduced and it is the underlying skin beneath the tattoos that can lighten. In effect, it may appear that your tattoos may lighten as well, though only minimally. But definitely, the whitening pills won't be able to erase them.

Hope that helps.

will existing tattoos show up more on the lighter skin using the pills
by: Anonymous

I have the same problem, want to use the pills but dont want it to fade out the ink, if anything im hoping if the skin lightens more then my tattoos will show up more, but dont want it to fade the inks used, will this happen?

Asnwer:

Hello, tattoos show up more prominently on lighter skin. Since skin whitening pills cannot directly affect tattoos, taking these supplements can actually make tattoos show up on skin especially if the tattoo ink used was good. Otherwise, it will have this effect on skin as I quote from the first posted question -

"...it may affect your tattoos but not directly. Since the skin whitening pills work from the inside out, the body's melanin content that gives the brown skin color, will be reduced and it is the underlying skin beneath the tattoos that can lighten. In effect, it may appear that your tattoos may lighten as well, though only minimally. But definitely, the whitening pills won't be able to erase them."

Hope that helps.
