Vitiligo

by Matt
(Denville)

I have vitiligo on my face and hands and am of italian american descent. Can a skin lightening agent help me in making a more uniform look to my skin? and is it permanent?

Answer:

Hi Matt, skin lightening products cannot give permanent results. Like any other skin or hair care regimen, there is a need for maintenance to keep the results lasting.

The only treatment for vitiligo is a Monobenzone or Benoquin prescription from your doctor or dermatologist. It will even out the white color on your skin and is permament. These two medications should not be used under normal skin conditions, only on vitiligo cases because it is a disorder in order to remove the brown patches of skin.

Hope that helps, Matt.

Take care,
Maria

Hello, I am not a medical expert, but I believe every single case of vitiligo in a patient is unique. That's why there are options to choose from. Your best bet should be consulting a doctor to suggest a treatment best for you. :-)
