Lightening Skin Care in Asia
Lightening skin care in Asia is focused specially for Asian skin. See why skin whitening is part of its culture.
Asian skin is oily, smooth, with larger pores and yellow undertones, prone to acne and irritation, but less susceptible to premature aging. Exfoliation is usually necessary to keep skin blemish-free. Some ingredients in light Caucasian cosmetics are also not suitable for Asian skin.
The Japanese have the lightest skin tone and least melanin, while the Indians with the most melanin, are darkest. Filipinos come in between. Chinese and Korean skin becomes more yellowish with age.
A distinct characteristic of Asian skin is it’s at risk for hyperpigmentation (dark or brown spots on skin) especially during summer, and skin tends to become darker with age because of more melanin.
Skin burns less easily therefore is less vulnerable to skin cancer, but will tan more easily. Even if skin tone is lightened by cosmetics, melanin is still underneath and can get discolored fast.
Asian culture is inclined to preference of lighter skin as well. It is their culture dating back a long time ago. This is why skin whitening creams are not uncommon in the region as a form of pigmentation treatment.
Considering all skin whitening products on this site can work for all skin types, let us hear from our Asian contributors how Dermaline, Diana Stalder, Claire Blanche or Greenwhite has worked for them.
