Lightening Black Skin Care

Black skin types include not only those coming from Africa, but the Native Australians, African-Americans, Caribbeans, Other Islands.

Black skin is prone to dryness (skin looks ashy), dark or brown spots on skin (pigmentation) or discoloration.

On the good side, black skin doesn’t age rapidly like white skin because of the presence of more melanin that combats sun damage, thus they look younger.

Despite this, skin cancer should not be ruled out as a possibility.

Sunscreen should be a must in black skin care. Avoid skin products with alcohol and peroxide that causes skin dryness. Pigmentation or dark spots are a common dilemma for black skin types, especially if they’re aging.

When choosing cosmetics, e.g. skin lightening products, choose ones that also moisturize skin. African American skin looses elasticity fast (dryness) therefore can exhibit hyperpigmentation and stretch marks on some areas of the body.

This is why steroid-based skin lighteners for black skin is a big NO-NO.
