Is it safe to use the lightening serum while breastfeeding?

by sara
(indiana, usa)

hi, i started using *edited* (the skin lightening serum) and i just would like to know if it is safe for me to use it while i'm breastfeeding? you know i suffer from discoloration and hyperpigmentation i can't wait till i stop breastfeeding my skin is getting worse and worse i really feel ashamed of my skin especially my neck which is darker than the other parts of my body.

Answer:

Hi Sara, skin lightening has not been thoroughly tested if safe, or unsafe, for pregnant and breastfeeding women. Hyperpigmentation is part of pregnancy, especially skin folds like neck, underarms, inner thighs. Usually, most dark spots disappear a few months after giving birth. But some do stay. These are the areas that would need a skin lightening solution.

Skin lighteners are acid-based exfoliating products that penetrate skin and is not suggested when you are producing milk for the baby. Better to wait after you're done nursing before you use any skin whitening products.
