Answer:
Hi AJ, based on your story, the use of astringents made your skin sun sensitive thus causing the sun or age spots on your face. Women in their 40s are commonly in this situation.
Melasma or age spots are hormonal, and this nature makes lightening not that easy. If you have tried skin whitening products before and they have worked well, maybe your problem is only maintenance.
Proper use is the key to successful skin lightening. After you reach the desired results, refrain from using the products daily. Maintenance is only 1-2x a week, with sunscreen remaining daily in your regimen. If you continue to use a skin whitener daily, it can make your skin more sensitive and hyperpigmentation can recur or get worse.
If you still have a bit of your previous brands left, and have rested your skin from any skin whitening products for 2 weeks, you can resume its use and follow the suggestion above to see if it works better for you this time.
Otherwise, if you wish to try our products, I can suggest this - Dermaline DE or Diana Stalder DS Black Soa and Whitening Cream.
Hope that helps. :)
