hands getting darker because of sun exposure

by Lenti
(Norway)

Hi Maria. I am light-skinned caucasian, get burned extremely quick, but at the same time get tan easily if not overexposed to sun
But because i have issues with nevi, moles i do not tan and cover my body up in summer.
I used Diana Stalder lightening soaps and cream for about a month and results gradually become visible.

I have a question about my hands. I work in kindergarten and we spend almost all the day outside in summer. So no sunblock helps to keep the hands as white as the rest of the body and face (because we are just always in the sun , plus you have to wash your hands like 30-40 times a day, naturally you cant apply sunscreen as often and the skin becomes extremely dehydrated too.

So i wear white cotton gloves (for the reasons of hygiene mostly as well), this helps to keep my hands from being severely burnt too. but it is still an issue.

Is it ok in my case to use the potent glutathion soap for usual hand wash throughout the day and the lightening/whitening lotion as a usual handcream?( plus, the gloves, lol)

or is it rather senseless overexposure to the potent whitening ingredients?

sometimes it is enough for me to run from the porch to the mailbox (with the total sunblock on) to get slight brown shade on the not covered areas :-(

Thank you beforehand for answering and taking your time to answer this.

Answer:

Hi Lenti, unless you minimize sun exposure, you cannot solve the problem, even with skin lighteners. Skin lightening might even worsen the discoloration because skin becomes sun sensitive when it is peeling or exfoliating.

But I would not totally discourage the possibility of improving or lightening your dark hands. Try the Glutathione Soap but make all efforts to protect them from too much sun exposure. :)

Thank you so much for answering :-)
I`ll try as you said ,
I have a question though, would sunblocks for face give the same result on hands, or may be skin on hands reacts differently, and needs higher or lower spf?

may be i chose just the wrong sunblock before.( i am speaking also about the times before i started to use diana stalder) - i do not burn with 50 spf but i always get colour no matter what - is this just my problem or it is natural? or a bad sunblock?

Thank you so much again for taking your time
:-) best regards, Lenti

Answer:

You're welcome, Lenti. :)

Sunblocks give the same effect on skin, whether it is applied on face or any part of the body. These cannot totally block sun damage, only control it, that's why you still get tanned. No sunblock can totally prevent UVA or UVB rays from penetrating our skin.

What you can do is re-apply sunscreen every 1 and a half hours of sun exposure. This way, you'll have a lesser chance of worsening your problem.
