Dark Spot On Skin
How To Get Rid Of Dark Spots
Got a dark spot on skin?
Lighten up! I mean… literally. :-)
When you have any of these:
- Dark neck
- Dark arms or legs
- Dark butt
Dark spots on skin are a form of hyperpigmentation that are unsightly, dirty-looking, and definitely affect one’s self-esteem.
Don’t worry. Help is here.
There are a variety of reasons that can cause dark spots to develop:
Patches of skin become darker than the normal surrounding skin. Melanin, the brown pigments that give skin color, then forms dark skin deposits.
How to get rid of dark spots
Removing dark spots can be expensive but highly effective. Laser treatments include the Q-Switched Ruby and other pigmented lesion lasers that often remove pigment without scarring on dark spots on the skin.
I still wonder why dermatologists prescribe more than 2% of hydroquinone, a lightening agent, for topical treatments despite the dangers of hydroquinone. Worse, you can buy topical over-the-counter creams that contain it too.
Newer mild skin lightening remedies have emerged - vitamin C, soy, arbutin, and mulberry root, licorice extract – in removing dark spots.
Branded products that can help include: Shiseido Whitess Intensive Skin Brightener with arbutin ($120; shiseido.com); Estee Lauder WhiteLight EX Extra Brightening Treatment Lotion with licorice and vitamin C ($30; gloss.com); and Aveda Brightening Essence with mulberry root ($45; aveda.com).
I won’t mind if I have to repeat this over and over again because you really need to remember, that although skin lighteners can remove dark spots on skin permanently, they can recur when skin is not protected from sun exposure.
That’s correct. You need to wear a high SPF sunscreen everyday.
You get the point.
