Chest is lighter than the rest of my body

My Chest is lighter than the rest of my body. I never wear low cut shirts i always wear crew neck shirts and in the winter turtle necks. I would love to wear some low cuts shirts but I'm always Ashame to. I just really hate this problem i don't like to take pictures sometimes cause you can easily see that my chest is lighter than my face.
Why is my chest lighter than the rest of my body? what can i do to get it the same complexion of the rest of my body? I am African-American and I thought about tanning?? Is that okay?
I'm just tired of feeling self-conscious of my body.....I would GREATLY appreciate your help. Thank you!

Hi Brittney, your self-tanning question is also welcome here. :)
The exact reason why your chest is lighter is in your own post - less sun exposure because your chest area has always been covered up. As we age, accumulated sun exposure can take a toll on skin and cause uneven skin tone.
Skin tanning is your answer, for the chest area alone. Obviously, I am not an expert on skin tanning (lol), but I believe there are tanning lotions which you can easily apply on targeted areas of skin.
In time, as you normally wear open-chested clothing, you won't need that tanning lotion anymore soon.
