Can being in the heat give you pigment even if you are not in the sunlight?

by Sarah
(Utah)

Someone told me that being overheated or being out in the heat can cause pigmentation even if you are not in the sunlight - is this true? Also, can you use ***edited*** or any skin lighteners while pregnant?
Thanks for any help you can give.

Answer:

Hi Sarah, heat is also another factor for skin darkening. The simple logic there is when we cook raw meat, it gets brown. This applies to our skin too.

It is also the heat of the sun (UVB rays) that tans our skin, with the addition of sun damage (UVA rays) that causes premature wrinkling.

It is not recommended for pregnant or lactating women to use any skin lightening product. These are acid-based exfoliating products that penetrates skin which causes it to peel (while skin expands for 9 months). The process is not good while the fetus is developing or milk is being produced.

Hope that gives you a better idea.

Maria
