After bleaching and lightening treatment.....

by Valerie
(Hawaii, USA)

After I had gone through bleaching and lightening treatments for about 3 weeks, my skin became so fairer, flawless and rosy cheeks...it was the best skin I had ever seen on my face. I continued with the treatments for another 3 more weeks but it wasn't everyday. At the same time my girlfriend showed me another skin lightening product and I started using both my old products and my friends' products at the same time. My skin peeled so much continuosly for 3 days. I started to get worried so I stopped using all products for about a week. Then I went back to my original products but my skin now just turns RED. It continues to peel and after almost 2 weeks now I can't get my skin to look like the way it did 3 weeks ago. My face is not only red but I seem to feel hot all over and as a result my entire is so red while my neck and chest are so fair..... I am so afraid now to try anything else and I don't know what to do....please help me Maria.

Answer:

Hi Valerie, mixing two different formulations is not good. Most of the time, they don't complement each other's active ingredients, and might cause a negative reaction to your skin. This is what happened to you. Before you went back to your original products, you should have waited at least 2 weeks for the skin to rest from the reaction it had from the previous experience.

Try to rest your skin for 2 weeks from any skin lightening product. Do not use any at all, only moisturizers. Over-peeling have caused dryness and redness, and you need to soothe your skin right now. Whatever moisturizer has worked for you before, apply it at bedtime AND anytime during the day when you feel skin is tight.

At daytime, wear a high SPF sunscreen (at least SPF45 or higher) because peeled skin is very sun sensitive.

Your skin will get back to normal, don't worry. It is just calling your attention for a little 'tlc'. :-)

I'll be here if you have more questions.

Take care,
Maria

Exfoliating
by: Valerie

Do you think that MelaCare is good for exfoliating the face? It seems to take off old layers of skin and face has this shinny and fresh look but I was worried about the ingredients in MelaCare. Please help.

Answer:

Hi Valerie, melacare has hydroquinone. Although formulated at an allowable 2%, a small risk is still a risk especially for long term use. If you can switch to any hydroquione-, mercury-, or steroid-free skin whitening products, your skin will love you. :)
